ATLANTA – A coalition of Georgia businesses hasn’t let up its campaign for immigration legislation despite seeing the issue bog down in Congress and criticism hurled its way.

The coalition of 21 individual businesses and trade associations, called Georgia Employers for Immigration Reform, argues that the state’s economy depends on immigrant workers and that the jobs of native Georgians could be lost if federal law stops the flow of illegal immigrants. The group suffered a defeat June 29 when the Senate failed to stop a filibuster resulting in no vote on a bipartisan reform bill the group supported.

And a video has been posted on the
YouTube Internet site by someone calling for a boycott against Pilgrim’s Pride Corp. , the state’s largest chicken company and a leader in the coalition.

Still, coalition members are looking forward to another debate on the floor of the Senate.

“We’ve had a couple of skull sessions, and we continue to follow what the Congress is doing,” said spokesman Jay Morgan . “We know that there are a lot of people who are having, shall we say, voter’s remorse. They really didn’t want the issue to die without a resolution.”

During Congress’ August recess, coalition members have met with some representatives and senators. At the same time, they’ve urged their employees to buttonhole the members of Congress with the same message.

To get the public on board, or at least dampen some criticism in this staunchly conservative state, the coalition has also run an ad in a
Macon newspaper and on some radio stations.

More…and remember, they will never give up on amnesty. Ever.

Man firm on ousting of aliens

The manager of Lakeview Apartments in Louisville stands by the decision to order illegal aliens to vacate the premises by the end of the month.

Hispanic tenants of the apartments found themselves confronted with an Aug. 13 memo from the management giving any illegal aliens 18 days to move out.

“If you are illegally in the country and you are still in the apartment at the end of August, I will call the proper authorities. You will be arrested and you will be deported,” the memo read.

The 24-unit apartment complex was purchased by real-estate investors Adam, John and Moira Dewar of Carlsbad, Calif., on May 9. Meadowland Property Management of Louisville was hired to administer the property.

“My position has always been, no matter where we’re managing property, in anything we are doing, we try to provide a safe, comfortable home for tenants. And at the same time, we try to provide a profitable investment for the real estate investor,” said Meadowland General Manager J. Carlos Maciel.
“I think any local law enforcement I’ve had to deal with over the years would confirm that we don’t run an operation that stands for any trouble — whether it be noise, drugs or anything that is a hazard, an inconvenience or a disruption at the property.”

Federal law prohibits knowingly harboring illegal aliens, but tenants are also legally entitled to 30-days notice prior to eviction based on a violation of contract.

Maciel said that when he took over management of the property, he set about gathering accurate records of the tenants. Many of the registration forms he sent out were not returned, and others were returned with fake Social Security numbers, he said.

Yawn…enforcement works…again

Legal Aliens – Temporary Workers

If you make it easier to become a legal temporary worker, you will eliminate the border problem! There will be no need to “sneak” across the border. There will be no need to hire illegals if the supply of legal workers meets the demand.

Obviously, the present work visa program is not meeting the demand for workers. Workers don’t stick around if they don’t find work. I have extensive experience hiring these workers for personal home projects. I speak fluent Spanish. These are generally very good people who just want to work peacefully. We need them.

Let private industry control who enters the country! Just hold those private legal registration companies accountable. Set up a private industry that can privately “insure” workers like an employment agency who tracks the people they bring in and covers their cost to society.

Any law must insure a free market – not a highly regulated one. The workers should be able to shop for the best “worker ID” service at the lowest price. The only regulation should be regular review of those they “insure.” Plus, there should be standardization of the “worker ID” cards. Cards should expire or become invalid (like a credit card) when the worker doesn’t pay their small fee to the service company. If they are un-employed they can’t pay their fee and we don’t want them in this country any way. Employers, police, government agencies, etc. should be able to scan the card at any given time to see if it is current and valid.

The synergy of private and government collaboration will more efficiently track legal aliens and track criminals. The criminal element will be easy to spot. They won’t be “insured.” Any company bringing workers into the country would be required to pay for their cost to society, their defense and their extradition. Any national, state or local government agency should be able to bill the “worker ID” company directly by using the card information. Fear of cost over-runs will give private industry incentive to work closely with government to keep the criminal element out yet meet the needs of the quality workers.

That’s my theory and I’m sticking to it!

I am just guessing here, but I don’t think Ms. Evans has done much research on illegal immigration…in any language. She missed this:
Study: Illegal Immigrants Not Drawn by Jobs

A majority of Mexican nationals who crossed into the United States illegally in the past two years left behind paying jobs that, in some cases, are similar to the agriculture, construction and manufacturing work they find north of the border, according to a study of Mexican immigrants released yesterday by the Pew Hispanic Center.

( The rest from that far right extreme xenophobic rag, the Washington Post here)

Oh…and this:

But, somehow, I somehow don’t think facts are going to change her position.

To: D.A. King

You are doing a great job and I want you to keep the pressure on these law-breaking invaders that are going to destroy America if they are allowed to stay here. It’s people like you who carry the banner for those of us who, for one reason or another, can’t get out there on the front lines to solve this huge danger to The United States.

I hope more people join me in donating to your group. We need you to continue the fight. I’m sorry that all I could send is $50, but I’m disabled and live on a fixed income and that about all I can afford to send you from time to time. This is not my first gift to you nor will it be the last. I only wish I could afford to send more.

Please D.A. don’t give up the fight. I need you. The people of Georgia need you. AND America needs you. Our so-called politicians in Washington sure don’t give a damn what happens to America. It’s up to people like you to keep their feet to the fire and continue making sure they do what’s right by America.

Oh-Oh…this is clearly a bigoted and racist concept: Australia Sets Values Test for Immigrants

Australia Sets Values Test for Immigrants WHAT!?

Australia Sets ‘Values’ Test for Prospective Citizens
By Patrick Goodenough

CNSNews.com) – Asserting that Australia has been built on values based on “Judeo-Christian ethics,” Prime Minister John Howard’s government has introduced a new test for would-be citizens.

The move comes amid concerns about extremist views among some Australian Muslims, and at a time when some small political parties are pushing for immigration — and Muslim immigration in particular — to be on the agenda ahead of elections due later this year.

Immigrants who have lived in the country as legal residents for four years and want to become citizens will be expected to score at least 60 percent in a test of 20 questions taken randomly from a pool of 200 questions, covering issues ranging from “Australian values” to history, sport and political institutions. The test also gauges whether applicants have a basic grasp of English.

“Before becoming a citizen it is reasonable to expect that a person will understand the core values that have helped to create a society that is stable yet dynamic, cohesive yet diverse,” Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews said in a statement.

Andrews at the weekend released a booklet from which the questions will be drawn, outlining values which he said during a press conference were “relatively uncontroversial.”
