AJC reporter Sheinin criticized for “fake news”

by IAG Staff | Feb 23, 2017 | James Magazine

State Rep. Jesse Petrea, R-Savannah, and a number of immigration control activists are upset with Atlanta Journal-Constitution writer Aaron Gould Sheinin and his editors for printing what they call “fake news” in an article yesterday describing Petrea’s House Bill 452 dealing with criminal aliens.

Sheinin wrote: “Legislation filed in the state House on Wednesday would require the GBI to create and maintain a website listing any unauthorized immigrant currently in Georgia.”

Longtime activist D.A. King of the Dustin Inman Society brands it as “false” (as does Petrea and others) and demanded an AJC retraction. As this is written, the newspaper hasn’t done so.

In response to an email from King calling him out, however, Sheinin claimed Petrea “introduced a bill that does more than he says it means.” But then, after speaking with Petrea, Sheinin backed down and wrote in an email that “am going to change the story to reflect what he intends the bill to do, instead of what it says in plain language it would do.”

“This happens all too often. The AJC sometimes rewrites new versions of political stories when they are originally inaccurate– rather than just simply publishing a formal clarification or correction,” says Phil Kent, CEO of InsiderAdvantage Georgia and the governor’s appointee to the state Immigration and Enforcement Review Board.

What is accurate, by the way, is that Petrea’s bill would require the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to share information it has been receiving from the Department of Homeland Security for over a year regarding the release from federal custody of criminal aliens onto the street.

Anti-enforcement Democrat Georgia state Rep on illegal aliens with deferred action on deportation: “More American” than Americans

Posted by D.A. King at 12:18 pm - Email the author   Print This Post Print This Post

Re; GPTV Lawmakers show, January 13, 2017 – Legislative day 4

Freshman Georgia state Rep Brenda Lopez (D- Norcross) on illegal immigration, and illegal aliens who benefit from Obama’s 2012 re-election deferred action on deportation decree:

“These are young folks that are basically more American than some of us that may have been born in this country, right?” ”…these are American kids for all intents and purposes.”

Rep Lopez can be seen uttering her take on being American and the rule of law at 10:26 HERE.

Rep Lopez was one of twenty-six House members who voted against HB 452, which requires that GBI share information it is already receiving from ICE on the release of violent, convicted criminal aliens.

Rep Brenda Lopez – Georgia General Assembly website

The Washington D.C.- based Center for Immigration Studies reports that in 2015, the Feds (ICE) freed 19,723 criminal aliens, who had a total of 64,197 convictions among them. These included 8,234 violent convictions and 208 homicide convictions. While the total number of releases is lower than the past two years, since the number of arrests has declined quite dramatically, the rate of releases is approximately the same — meaning that this is no progress at all, and certainly will be no consolation for the victims of these criminal aliens.

The table below enumerates the criminal convictions associated with the released aliens. The largest number of convictions was for Driving Under the Influence; there were 12,307 alcohol DUI convictions and 354 drug DUI convictions, for a total of 12,661.

We regard Rep Lopez as unapologetically anti-enforcement on immigration in the United States.

Help us fight anti-immigrant legislation! Calls needed NOW before 2 PM today!

Please see the action alert sent below from our friends at Asians Americans Advancing Justice-Atlanta:

We have some urgent calls to action for you today to help us fight anti-immigrant legislation. Please make your calls or show up in person to oppose these bills, and share with your contacts as well.

CALL HOUSE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE before 2pm and ask them to vote NO on HB 452, which allows the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to create a registry of undocumented immigrants who have been detained by U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE), those who have been arrested, and those that are currently serving or have served time in jail. This bill places a target on undocumented immigrants, and puts them at risk for further discrimination and deportation. Tell these four legislators who sit on the subcommittee to VOTE NO AGAINST BIGOTRY AND INTOLERANCE IN GEORGIA!

Eddie Lumsden (R-Armuchee): 404.656.0325
Micah Gravely (R-Douglasville): 404.656.0152
Gerald Greene (R-Cuthbert): 404.656.5105
J. Collins (R-Valdosta): 404.656.0109

SHOW UP to the committee hearings for HB 452 (today at 2pm in 406 CLOB) and SB 231 (today at 4pm in 307 CLOB). Attend these meetings to show our legislators that you care about these issues. As mentioned above, HB 452 would create a registry of undocumented immigrants who have been detained by U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE), those who have been arrested, and those that are currently serving or have served time in jail. SB 231 also includes a registry, but goes further and excludes those with DACA status from entering certain professions, denies them in-state tuition, and access to the HOPE scholarship. (note: CLOB is the Coverdell Legislative Office Building which is adjacent to the Capitol)

Sincerely,

Aisha Yaqoob
