Illegal immigrants suing Texas cop for millions

By: SGT News | Published on 03/24/07

Imprisoned Texas police officer Gilmer Hernandez finds himself in the middle of a multi-million dollar lawsuit brought by a group of illegal immigrants, claiming their civil rights were violated when they tried to escape during a routine traffic stop.

The SmallGovTimes.com reported on the case originally in which Hernandez pulled over a van of illegal immigrants during a traffic stop. The driver of the van attempted to run over Hernandez, prompting the officer to shoot at the tires of the van. Some bullet fragments hit two of the passengers of the van. Hernandez was thrown in jail shortly after the incident, where the government recommended a 7-year sentence for his alleged indiscretions.

The illegals have turned their sights on capitalizing on America’s society of political correctness by suing the officer for millions of dollars, claiming their civil rights were violated.

“The way to win the lottery is to take off and refuse to obey the lawful authority in the United States,” Jimmy Parks, the attorney representing Hernandez, said. “The illegal aliens know that if they can scrutinize the acts of the law enforcement officer, there’s a decent chance the police may end up going to prison, while the illegal aliens are end up with one good lawsuit.”

The complaint alleges that Hernandez, who narrowly escaped the vehicle’s tires, used unwarranted deadly force during the incident. Two of the van’s passengers were injured; one took a bullet fragment to the face, and the other to the arm. They are suing for medical expenses, physical impairment, pain an suffering and mental anguish.

Parks said the lawsuit has become “standard operating procedure” on the U.S. border with Mexico.
