After realizing the obvious problems, WSB TV ran a correction at our request. We are very grateful to Ms. Misti Turnbull, News Nirector at WSB. WSB had <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsbtv.com\/news\/local\/state-senator-files-bill-prevent-illegal-immigrant\/137907178\">previously aired stories<\/a> regarding the fact that illegal aliens are getting drivers licensees in Georgia. The AJC has also run news stories admitting illegals get a Georgia drivers licesne. BTW: Yesterday the Georgia Department of Drivers Services (DDS) legislative liaison, Michael Mitchell, told the House Motor Vehicles committee that Georgia is not issuing drivers licenses to illegals. Not one member of that committee disputed that intentional lie. <strong>Why is that not &#8220;the news?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/onlineathens.com\/local-news\/2015-09-01\/immigrants-disputed-status-sue-georgia-drivers-licenses\">HERE<\/a> is an AP report admitting illegal aliens who have already been ordered deported were suing to get a Georgia drivers license. They won. Georgia did not appeal. The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ajc.com\/news\/state--regional-govt--politics\/georgia-settles-driver-license-suit-filed-immigrants\/4KVn3M5xa7KsCokVVpQW6N\/\">AJC did cover tha<\/a>t dangerous fact.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/chronicle.augusta.com\/metro-latest-news-government\/2012-08-23\/some-illegal-immigrants-can-get-georgia-drivers-licenses\">HERE<\/a> is an AP report explaining that illegal aliens with a delay\/deferral on deportation are getting a Georgia drivers license.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/no-headline-available-1390263644?mg=reno64-wsj&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fonline.wsj.com%2Farticle%2FSB10001424052702304027204579331663178294686.html&amp;fpid=2%2C7%2C121%2C122%2C201%2C401%2C641%2C1009&amp;tesla=y\">HERE is a Wall St. Journal report (paywall)<\/a> explaining that Georgia issues drivers licenses to illegal aliens with deferred action on deportation. Heads up to AJC &#8211; only illegal aliens need a deferral on deportation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/townhall.com\/columnists\/joshmckoon\/2015\/02\/10\/unlike-mexico-georgia-is-issuing-drivers-licenses-to-illegal-immigrants-n1955023\">HERE<\/a> is a very well written and lucid explanation ( much more clear than anything from the AJC ) of how illegal aliens get a drivers license in Georgia &#8211; and that it does not happen in Mexico.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.myajc.com\/news\/state--regional-govt--politics\/law-bars-illegal-immigrants-from-driver-license\/oLVtTQOj76kc7EbZSfX4bO\/\">HERE<\/a> is an AJC story with an inaccurate headline that tells readers Georgia passed legislation<em> that ends the practice of issuing drivers licenses to illegal aliens<\/em> from 2013. Despite my efforts, it was never corrected.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ajc.com\/news\/state--regional-govt--politics\/georgia-senate-passes-measure-aimed-immigrants-without-legal-status\/vOW3icsT7djUOKd1kvUvwL\/\">Added 9 Feb: HERE<\/a> is an AJC story from the well-trained immigration reporter ( <em>&#8220;In 2013, he completed a fellowship with The New York Times Institute on Immigration Reporting at the University of California Berkeley\u2019s Graduate School of Journalism. And in 2012, he completed fellowships at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.poynter.org\/2013\/migrahack-brings-together-journalists-programmers-and-community\/234069\/\">the Institute for Justice and Journalism on Immigration Reporting<\/a> at the University of Oklahoma\u2019s Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication and at the Journalist Law School at Loyola Law School in Los Angeles<\/em> ) who will not write &#8220;illegal&#8221; &#8211; so illegal aliens are &#8220;immigrants without legal status&#8221; &#8211; explaining quite carefully that the Georgia senate passed SB 6 last year to change the drivers license issued to illegal aliens&#8230;Welcome to Newspeak in Georgiafornia:&#8221;Georgia would create special driver\u2019s licenses and ID cards that more clearly identify immigrants without legal status under controversial legislation the Republican-controlled Senate approved on a 37-17 vote Monday.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ajc.com\/rf\/image_large\/Pub\/p8\/AJC\/2017\/02\/08\/Images\/newsEngin.17708539_dds.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: AJC Caption: AJC\u00a0&#8220;Georgia does not issue driver\u2019s licenses to people who are not in the United States legally. However, it issues temporary licenses to noncitizens who are in the country legally.&#8221;<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bill: Give legal residents \u201cnoncitizen\u201d driver\u2019s licenses<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>David Wickert<\/p>\n<p>The Atlanta Journal-Constitution<br \/>\n8:36 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017 \u00a0&#8211; Metro Atlanta \/ State news<\/p>\n<p>Legal Georgia residents who are not U.S. citizens would have their driver\u2019s licenses branded with the term \u201cnoncitizen\u201d under a bill that passed a House of Representatives committee Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The provision\u2019s sponsor, Rep. Alan Powell, R-Hartwell, said it could prevent noncitizens from registering to vote or take advantage of other benefits reserved for U.S. citizens.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t care if you\u2019re a regional vice president for Mercedes,\u201d Powell told the House Motor Vehicles Committee Tuesday. \u201cIf you\u2019re in this country and can get a driver\u2019s license, it at least ought to have on there `noncitizen.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Georgia does not issue driver\u2019s licenses to people who are not in the United States legally. However, it issues temporary licenses to noncitizens who are in the country legally.<\/p>\n<p>State Rep. Dewey McClain, D-Lawrenceville, questioned the usefulness of Powell\u2019s amendment. He wondered what police officers would make of the \u201cnoncitizen\u201d stamp if they pulled over a legal resident.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019re not legal, you can\u2019t get licenses at all anyway,\u201d McClain said.<\/p>\n<p>Powell said he doesn\u2019t see any downside to the \u201cnoncitizen\u201d label.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think `noncitizen\u2019 is a very offensive term,\u201d Powell said. \u201cIt just clearly states it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>By a 4-3 vote, the Motor Vehicles Committee attached Powell\u2019s provision to House Bill 136, which would allow Georgia residents to keep their old driver\u2019s licenses when they renew them.
