She has been recognized as one of 100 Influential Georgia Muslims.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Azadeh Shahshahani, Legal &amp; Advocacy Director<\/strong><br \/>\nAzadeh has worked for a number of years in North Carolina and Georgia to protect the human rights of immigrants and Muslim, Middle Eastern, and South Asian communities. She previously served as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acluga.org\/en\/press-releases\/The-ACLU-of-Georgia-National-Security-Immigrants-Rights-Project-is-celebrating-its-fifth-anniversary\">National Security\/Immigrants\u2019 Rights Project Director with the ACLU of Georgia. <\/a>Azadeh is a past president of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discoverthenetworks.org\/printgroupProfile.asp?grpid=6162\">the National Lawyers Guild<\/a>. Through the NLG, Azadeh has participated in international delegations, including to post-revolutionary Tunisia and Egypt, a delegation focused on the situation of Palestinian political prisoners, and election monitoring delegations to Venezuela and Honduras. She has also served as a member of the jury in people\u2019s tribunals on Mexico and the Philippines. Azadeh also serves as Chair of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.georgiadetentionwatch.com\/georgia-detention-watch\/\">Georgia Detention Watch<\/a>, Co-chair of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ushrnetwork.org\/upr-working-groups\">US Human Rights Network Working Group on National Security<\/a>, and on the Advisory Council of the American Association of Jurists. She is the author or editor of several human rights reports, including a 2012 report titled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclu.org\/blog\/prisoners-profit-immigrants-and-detention-georgia\">\u201cPrisons of Profits: Immigrants and Detention in Georgia,<\/a>\u201d as well as law review articles and book chapters focused on racial profiling, immigrants\u2019 rights, and surveillance of Muslim-Americans. Azadeh received her JD from the University of Michigan Law School where she was Article Editor for The Michigan Journal of International Law. She also has a Master\u2019s in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ii.umich.edu\/cmenas\/about-us.html\">Modern Middle Eastern and North African Studies<\/a> from the University of Michigan.
