{"id":566,"date":"2007-02-21T01:34:46","date_gmt":"2007-02-21T05:34:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thedustininmansociety.com\/blog\/?p=566"},"modified":"2007-02-21T01:52:17","modified_gmt":"2007-02-21T05:52:17","slug":"mexico-to-lobby-for-amnesty-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thedustininmansociety.org\/blog\/2007\/02\/21\/mexico-to-lobby-for-amnesty-again\/","title":{"rendered":"Mexico to lobby for amnesty-again!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Umm&#8230;please pay no attention to the fact that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.axcessnews.com\/modules\/wfsection\/article.php?articleid=11341\">Mexico is playing a larger role <\/a>in our president&#8217;s border security, immigration, employment and law enforcement policy than his oath of office, the constitution, existing law and the American people&#8217;s outrage.<\/p>\n<p>Because the press isn&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p>The media is however noting that Mexico is lobbying for a reapeat of the failed amnesty of 1986&#8230;now called &#8220;Comprehensive Reform&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>This from the Associated Press:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mexico to lobby for immigration reform<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>By JULIE WATSON Associated Press Writer<br \/>\n\u00a9 2007 The Associated Press <\/p>\n<p><strong>MEXICO CITY \u2014 Mexico plans to begin an aggressive lobbying effort in the United States to secure an immigration reform agreement, the country&#8217;s new ambassador in Washington said Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Mexican consulates in the United States will talk with state and federal lawmakers, business chambers, civic organizations and &#8220;all actors of U.S. society&#8221; who support comprehensive immigration reform, Arturo Sarukhan said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There are few matters so important to the future of this country,&#8221; Sarukhan told reporters in Mexico City before departing for Washington.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The ambassador said Mexico has a brief window to convince Washington to approve <a href=\"http:\/\/www.numbersusa.com\/interests\/amnesty.html\">immigration reforms <\/a>before campaigning begins for the 2008 U.S. presidential election.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>We are going to put into place the same kind of diplomatic and lobbying effort that we did in the early 1990s when NAFTA was being decided,&#8221; said Sarukhan, referring to the North American Free Trade Agreement.<\/p>\n<p>Mexico wants Washington to usher in reforms to create a guest worker program, provide a legal path for millions of Mexicans living in the United States and allow for the reunification of families split by immigration laws.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>President Bush supports giving Mexican migrants temporary work visas he has failed to win support in Congress.<\/p>\n<p><em>Note from D.A. &#8211; This is absolute nonsense.
