Governor Signs Anti-Bullying Legislation<\/p>\n
Also signs other House, Senate bills<\/p>\n
ATLANTA \u2013 Governor Sonny Perdue announced today that he has signed Senate Bill 250, which strengthens Georgia\u2019s anti-bullying laws. The law requires that parental notification for students involved in a bullying incident and directs the state Department of Education to develop a model anti-bullying policy that can be used by local school systems. SB 250 was originally sponsored in the Senate by Sen. Bill Hamrick and carried in the House by Rep. Mike Jacobs, Rep. Mike Glanton and Rep. Kevin Levitas.<\/p>\n
\u201cBullying has no place in our schools,\u201d said Governor Perdue. \u201cThis legislation will help local systems address incidents of student intimidation and ensure that parents know when their child is involved in a bullying incident.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Governor was joined at the bill signing by the family of Jaheem Herrara who committed suicide after being taunted by classmates.<\/p>\n
