The media can be counted on to do with the media does which is well…nothing. Recently, I attended a legislative committee meeting for a final decision on HB1164<\/a>. It was not the only bill on the agenda but the committee was slated to make a final decision. Just as a point of note, HB53<\/a>\/HB111<\/a> was also on the agenda.<\/p>\n

Here’s a little background on the two bills: HB1164 (before it got gutted by the subcommittee)<\/a> allowed for punishment of those contractors\/subcontractors that hire illegal aliens and do not use E-Verify to ensure they are legally eligible to work in the US. HB1164 was created prior to Cobb County realizing that illegal aliens were working on the Courthouse project<\/a>. HB53\/HB111 disallowed racial profiling in traffic stops and required the police officers to collect an immense amount of information in the traffic stop. During testimony, a police chief stated that it would add 41 minutes to a traffic stop just to collect the additional information. The police chief also stated that officers are annually trained and there are guidelines and policies against racial profiling.<\/p>\n

Back to the issue at hand, CBS46 Atlanta had a reporter in attendance at the committee meeting. HB53\/HB111 had plenty of testimony from the ACLU, immigrant rights’ groups, etc. about racial profiling. Did CBS46 Atlanta ask the “Tough Questions” of the ACLU? No. Did CBS46 Atlanta ask the “Tough Questions” of the police chief? No. <\/p>\n

Did someone mention used cars<\/a>?! Well, let’s get the cameras rolling and the reporters talking! There must be “Tough Questions” asked of used car sellers and dealers. In a massive reach to pat themselves on the back<\/a>, CBS46 Atlanta testified to punish those used car sellers for knowingly selling a car with defects. CBS46 Atlanta is so proud that they are looking out for you.<\/p>\n

Oh, the passionate testimony of the reporter about manipulated CarFax reports and hidden camera video. The endless circular discussion of the difference between a used car dealer and a used car seller. wow.<\/p>\n

I wonder if there are any statistics on cops pulling over used green cars as opposed to used blue cars? I can’t tell you how often I get irritated at those used cars that escape capture at the border and end up in Georgia. If I see one more used car on a job site taking parking spaces…<\/p>\n
