{"id":2971,"date":"2010-02-03T07:56:59","date_gmt":"2010-02-03T11:56:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thedustininmansociety.com\/blog\/?p=2971"},"modified":"2010-02-03T07:56:59","modified_gmt":"2010-02-03T11:56:59","slug":"287g-stats-most-foreign-born-inmates-here-illegally","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thedustininmansociety.org\/blog\/2010\/02\/03\/287g-stats-most-foreign-born-inmates-here-illegally\/","title":{"rendered":"287(g) stats: Most foreign-born inmates here illegally"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Gwinnett Daily Post<\/em><\/p>\n<p> Jan 27, 2010<\/p>\n<p><strong>287(g) stats: Most foreign-born inmates here illegally <\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>LAWRENCEVILLE \u2014 On Tuesday, the Gwinnett County Sheriff\u2019s Department released crime statistics associated with the recently implemented 287(g) program, including charges against, and nationalities of, detainees. <\/p>\n<p>As a direct result of the program, there are 996 charges pending against 464 defendants that deputies have screened and determined to be here illegally.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to 287(g), which began on Nov. 16, 2009, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials had already placed 53 detainers on inmates at the Gwinnett County Jail, bringing the total number of immigration holds to 523. <\/p>\n<p>Sheriff\u2019s Department spokeswoman Stacey Bourbonnais said statistics show that 62 percent of the jail\u2019s foreign-born population is here illegally. <\/p>\n<p>According to those statistics, 285 of the 464 287(g) detainers have been placed on illegal immigrants from Mexico, far more than Honduras, 50, Guatemala, 37, and El Salvador, 25. <\/p>\n<p>Other detainees are from Africa (4), Cuba (3) and Brazil (2). The remaining 58 detainers fall in the \u201cother\u201d category, comprised of countries such as Panama, India and Colombia. <\/p>\n<p>The alleged crimes run the gamut, though no detainee is charged with homicide. <\/p>\n<p>Charges include: <\/p>\n<p>\u2022 178 driver\u2019s license charges (though officials said in all but 61 of these, there are additional charges)<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 58 felony drug charges<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 15 aggravated assaults<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 13 sex crimes<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 45 batteries<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 23 robberies and burglaries<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 62 DUIs<\/p>\n<p>Other charges include theft, city\/county ordinance violations, traffic offenses and probation violations. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gwinnettdailypost.com\/home\/headlines\/82757332.html\">HERE<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gwinnett Daily Post Jan 27, 2010 287(g) stats: Most foreign-born inmates here illegally LAWRENCEVILLE \u2014 On Tuesday, the Gwinnett County Sheriff\u2019s Department released crime statistics associated with the recently implemented 287(g) program, including charges against, and nationalities of, detainees.
