{"id":2850,"date":"2010-01-02T13:35:47","date_gmt":"2010-01-02T17:35:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thedustininmansociety.com\/blog\/?p=2850"},"modified":"2010-01-02T13:35:47","modified_gmt":"2010-01-02T17:35:47","slug":"zogbychurchgoers-disagree-on-immigration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thedustininmansociety.org\/blog\/2010\/01\/02\/zogbychurchgoers-disagree-on-immigration\/","title":{"rendered":"Zogby:Churchgoers Disagree on Immigration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Poll: Churchgoers Disagree on Immigration<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Saturday, January 2, 2010        <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>WASHINGTON&#8211; A vast majority of U.S. churchgoers across all major denominations disagree with their leaders&#8217; pro-immigration stances, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.numbersusa.com\/content\/nusablog\/beckr\/december-28-2009\/zogby-poll-finds-few-pew-agree-their-pro-amnesty-religious-leaders-a\">a survey <\/a>indicates.<\/p>\n<p>Despite calls from the leaders of mainline and evangelical Protestant, Catholic and Jewish religions for illegal immigrants to be allowed a path to legalized residency, rank-and-file church members across the religious spectrum reject their positions and instead favor tougher enforcement aimed at making the immigrants go home, a Zogby Poll released Wednesday indicated.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, the pollsters found that members strongly disagree with their leaders&#8217; contention that more immigrant workers need to be allowed into the country and insist there are plenty of Amercians available for low-paying manual labor jobs and seasonal farm work.<\/p>\n<p>Zogby found that just 11 percent of Catholics, 18 percent of mainline Protestants, 9 percent of evangelical Protestants and 21 percent of Jews agreed that illegal immigration was caused by not letting in enough legal immigrants &#8212; a contention that is the official position of all the major churches.<\/p>\n<p>The online survey, commissioned for the Center for Immigration Studies, polled 42,026 likely voters from Nov. 13-30 and carried a margin of error of 0.5 percentage points. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crnewswire.com\/index.cfm?fuseaction=siteContent.default&#038;objectID=19373\">HERE<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Poll: Churchgoers Disagree on Immigration Saturday, January 2, 2010 WASHINGTON&#8211; A vast majority of U.S. churchgoers across all major denominations disagree with their leaders&#8217; pro-immigration stances, a survey indicates.
