King letter to the editor AJC today: Illegal immigration laws should be passed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Illegal immigration laws should be passed<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Most Georgians are unaware that the powerful Georgia Municipal Association (<a href=\"http:\/\/thedustininmansociety.org\/blog\/?p=2169\">GMA<\/a>) is opposed to \u2014- and has joined the ACLU in lobbying hard against \u2014- two bills aimed at slowing the crime of illegal immigration. House Bill 2 says local governments must obey a state law passed in 2006 requiring them to obey federal immigration law; Senate Bill 20 would impose financial penalties on local governments that violate federal law by creating \u201csanctuary\u201d policies for illegal aliens. Both are in the GMA\u2019s \u201coppose\u201d list.<\/p>\n<p>Lawmakers should ignore the GMA-ACLU coalition and find the time and courage to approve HB 2 and SB 20, two bills that, if passed and enforced, will go a long way to encouraging illegal aliens to migrate <em>out<\/em> of Georgia \u2014- which is exactly the reason for both organizations\u2019 opposition.<\/p>\n<p>D.A.
