{"id":1637,"date":"2008-06-25T15:04:12","date_gmt":"2008-06-25T19:04:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thedustininmansociety.com\/blog\/?p=1637"},"modified":"2008-06-27T08:45:48","modified_gmt":"2008-06-27T12:45:48","slug":"open-records-request-sent-to-gwinnett-county-government-regarding-save-application","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thedustininmansociety.org\/blog\/2008\/06\/25\/open-records-request-sent-to-gwinnett-county-government-regarding-save-application\/","title":{"rendered":"OPEN RECORDS REQUEST sent to Gwinnett County government regarding SAVE application"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Background <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedustininmansociety.com\/blog\/?p=1628\">HERE<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>25 June, 2008<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Jane Osetkowski                                                                                                    Financial Services Dept.<br \/>\nGwinnett County, Georgia <\/p>\n<p> Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center<br \/>\n75 Langley Drive<br \/>\nLawrenceville, GA 30045<\/p>\n<p>Re; OPEN RECORDS REQUEST <\/p>\n<p>Ms. Osetkowski, <\/p>\n<p>Thank you very much for your prompt response to my phone inquiry today.<\/p>\n<p>According to the language of the 2006 Georgia Security and Immigration Compliance Act (SB 529), as of July 1, 2007 all local governments in Georgia are required to verify the eligibility of all applicants for public benefits using the federal Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) database.<\/p>\n<p>According to federal definitions used in the law, public benefits include all commercial and professional (business) licenses. <\/p>\n<p>Also section nine of the Georgia Security and Immigration Compliance Act requires that all applicants for public benefits execute an affidavit attesting to citizenship, lawful qualified alien &#8211; or non immigrant &#8211; status.<\/p>\n<p>Under language of the law, in the case of any applicant who has executed an affidavit reflecting lawful alien status, eligibility for public benefits for that alien must be verified using the (SAVE) program.<\/p>\n<p>Please consider this letter my formal open records request for copies of all documents relevant to your application (including the application itself) to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for a Memorandum of Understanding with that department to use SAVE. Also, all affidavits recorded from applicants for public benefits \u2013 including all professional\/commercial (business) licenses\/certificates issued by Gwinnett County from 2 July, 2007 to 20 June, 2008.<\/p>\n<p>I also ask for the total number of professional and commercial (business) licenses issued during the same period.<\/p>\n<p>I thank you in advance for your prompt reply.<\/p>\n<p>Please feel free to call me with any questions.<\/p>\n<p>Respectfully,<\/p>\n<p>D.A.
