King<\/p>\n<p>How \u201cpro-enforcement\u201d is today\u2019s Republican state leadership on illegal immigration? With today being Crossover Day under the Gold Dome, Georgia voters will hopefully be allowed a clear view of where their House Reps stand on sanctuary policies for criminal aliens \u2013 in a state with more illegal aliens than green card holders. In an election year.<\/p>\n<p>HB 1083 from Rep. Jesse Petrea (R \u2013 Savannah) is all set to go to the floor \u2013 assuming GOP House leadership gives the OK to move it from the Rules committee. We will know by midnight tonight.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_15357\" style=\"width: 121px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedustininmansociety.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/RalstonDavid189.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15357\" class=\"size-full wp-image-15357\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thedustininmansociety.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/RalstonDavid189.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"111\" height=\"163\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-15357\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Georgia Speaker David Ralston<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Basically, the commonsense bill makes it illegal for any local or state law enforcement agency to refuse to honor an ICE detainer or to decline to notify federal authorities before release of a prisoner in who ICE has an interest. The well-crafted and simple legislation also says that Georgia law enforcement must allow ICE to interview prisoners under their control and outlaws any policies that prohibit \u201cparticipation in any program or agreement authorized under Section 287 of the federal Immigration and Nationality Act\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_13549\" style=\"width: 121px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedustininmansociety.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/PetreaJesse862-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13549\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13549\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thedustininmansociety.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/PetreaJesse862-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"111\" height=\"163\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-13549\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rep. Jesse Petrea; Ga General Assembly<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Amending and greatly improving the definition of \u201csanctuary\u201d in <a href=\"https:\/\/law.justia.com\/codes\/georgia\/2010\/title-36\/provisions\/chapter-80\/36-80-23\">existing law<\/a>, it\u2019s an extremely good bill, perhaps light on immediate punishment for local agencies and officials that violate the language, but that is something that can be remedied.<\/p>\n<p>The fact that Petrea\u2019s bill gives common, everyday individuals a method of redress against a government entity \u2013 including law enforcement \u2013 found to be in violation of the above if the violation causes injury or death by an illegal alien is a giant step forward. And it is driving the corporate-funded anti-enforcement mob crazy with fear and anger.<\/p>\n<p>When this writer last looked, Petrea\u2019s bill had nearly fifty co-signers including at least one Democrat. DeKalb County\u2019s Vernon Jones is<a href=\"http:\/\/www.legis.ga.gov\/legislation\/en-US\/Display\/20192020\/HB\/1083\"> signer number four.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A very honorable mention should go to Freshman Rep. Philip Singleton (R \u2013 Sharpsburg) for his hard work on his own anti-sanctuary bill (HB915) that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/georgia-bill-ban-sanctuary-cities\">served to drive consideration<\/a> of Petrea\u2019s bill.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_15233\" style=\"width: 121px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedustininmansociety.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/SingletonPhilip4968.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15233\" class=\"size-full wp-image-15233\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thedustininmansociety.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/SingletonPhilip4968.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"111\" height=\"167\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-15233\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">GA state Rep Philip Singleton<br \/>Photo: Georgia General Assembly<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Readers here who may be wondering why they have not heard of this measure before now should know that while there is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ajc.com\/news\/state--regional-govt--politics\/democratic-lawmakers-propose-state-tuition-for-all-georgia-students\/fkIOtQHnEqub0zDFhsF5XP\/\">extensive exposure<\/a> of legislation to reward illegal aliens with instate tuition and (<a href=\"https:\/\/immigrationpoliticsga.com\/ajc-bending-facts-on-state-legislation-again-hb960-and-illegal-alien\/\">inaccurate<\/a>) coverage of a bill to end use of the legal and accurate term \u201cillegal alien\u201d to describe illegal aliens, no, the AJC has not done a story on HB 1083. So you likely read it here first.<br \/>\nPetrea\u2019s public safety bill enjoys all the right enemies, including the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedustininmansociety.org\/blog\/2020\/03\/05\/splc-lobbies-against-public-safety-legislation-in-georgia-says-well-sue-if-you-pass-anti-sanctuary-law-hb1083\/\"> usual suspects<\/a> who are funded to fight against immigration enforcement with mindless and false howls of \u201canti-immigrant!\u201d and \u201chate!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Going in the opposite direction of <a href=\"https:\/\/cis.org\/Huennekens\/Identifying-SuperSanctuaries\">sanctuary state California<\/a>, and along with one of Gov. Brian Kemp\u2019s campaign pledges on illegal immigration, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.legis.ga.gov\/Legislation\/20192020\/192611.pdf\">HB 1083<\/a> will serve to save lives in Georgia if it becomes law. If it doesn\u2019t, it will vividly illustrate the true values of the Republican leadership. Either way, tomorrow Petrea\u2019s anti-sanctuary for criminal aliens legislation will no longer be treated as a secret by Georgia media.<\/p>\n<p>If it becomes law, here\u2019s hoping it is one of those laws that is actually enforced.<\/p>\n<p><em>A political independent, D.A.
