AJC inventing \u201cfacts\u201d on state legislation again \u2013 HB960 and \u201cillegal alien\u201d<\/h1>\n

UPDATE: We have been looking everyday for a correction that has not been made. SMH. March 11, 2020.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

A Tuesday, Feb 25, 2020 AJC print version blurb (Removal of \u201cillegal alien\u201d language from state law sought\u201d \u2013 page B7- Metro<\/em>) on pending legislation in Georgia tells readers that HB960 \u201cwould replace the term with \u201cunauthorized immigrant.\u201d Actually reading the bill tells a different story.<\/p>\n

The bill is another attempt to erase the all-too-accurate \u201cillegal alien\u201d and substitute the mindless \u201cundocumented\u2026\u201d In this case the hope is to strike \u201cillegal alien\u201d from state law and substitute \u201cundocumented person.\u201d<\/p>\n

We can\u2019t find the term \u201cunauthorized immigrant\u201d anywhere in the bill.<\/p>\n

AJC reporter Amanda Coyne<\/a> should be asked to explain why she got it so wrong. Why? Because this is not the first time the AJC has run false goop about illegal immigration legislation<\/a> and because people, including this writer, will never again believe anything Coyne is allowed to put in print without verifying it themselves.<\/p>\n

Neither is the AJC piece complete. The bill also has language that eliminates the word \u201calien\u201d from the code and inserts \u201cperson.\u201d As in \u201cwe\u2019re all just people\u2026why do we need immigration laws\u2026?\u201d And it changes \u201cillegal\u201d to \u201cundocumented.\u201d<\/p>\n

Here is a snippet from HB 960, lines 19-23:<\/p>\n

\u201c19 \u00a0(b) A person who, while committing another criminal offense, knowingly and intentionally <\/strong><\/p>\n

20 \u00a0transports or moves an illegal alien<\/del> undocumented person<\/u> in a motor vehicle for the <\/strong><\/p>\n

21 \u00a0purpose of furthering the illegal<\/del> undocumented<\/u> presence of the alien<\/del> person\u00a0<\/u>in the United <\/strong><\/p>\n

22 \u00a0States shall be guilty of the offense of transporting or moving an illegal alien <\/del><\/strong><\/p>\n

23 \u00a0undocumented person<\/u>.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

We\u2019ll take the time to review other Amanda Coyne yarns later. For now, we are sending a request for a correction to the AJC leadership. But we are not holding our breath.<\/p>\n
