Pushes Anti-Sanctuary Cities Bill in Georgia<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"subheading\">A GOP legislator and 19 co-sponsors are pushing legislation to bar sanctuary cities in Georgia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m very hopeful,\u201d said state Rep. Philip Singleton, who <a class=\"x5l\" href=\"http:\/\/www.house.ga.gov\/Documents\/Biographies\/singletonPhilip.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer\">flew AH-64 attack helicopters<\/a> in Afghanistan and Iraq. He continued<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>This legislation is directly in line with President Donald Trump\u2019s agenda and the agenda that Governor Brian Kemp ran on, and the Republicans across the state have talked about for years.\u00a0 I\u2019m very hopeful that they will decide to legislate the way that they campaigned.<\/p>\n<p>This is extremely important for Georgia, not only for the safety of the immigrant community but also for the safety of every Georgian. And it\u2019s important, especially in a major election year, that the voters see that the conservatives that they\u2019ve elected will actually get legislation improving their lives like the [candidates] promised.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>A July 2018 <a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/gbpi.org\/2018\/voluntary-immigration-enforcement-a-costly-choice-for-georgia-communities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer\">report<\/a> by the left-wing\u00a0Georgia Budget and Policy Institute said the roughly one-third of all immigrants in the state are\u00a0 \u201cunauthorized immigrants.\u201d The estimated population of 377,000 illegals outnumbered the resident population of 260,000 green card holders and was close to the population of 427,000 immigrant citizens.<\/p>\n<p>The population of illegals nudges up <a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thedustininmansociety.org\/blog\/2019\/12\/10\/criminal-aliens-in-georgia-ice-detainers-active-offenders-as-of-november-2019-from-the-georgia-dept-of-corrections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer\">crime rates<\/a>, pushes down Americans\u2019 wages, and boosts housing prices. But business groups welcome the extra population because it provides more workers, customers, and renters to businesses.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2020\/02\/Screen-Shot-2020-02-23-at-10.09.17-PM.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-12736472\" src=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2020\/02\/Screen-Shot-2020-02-23-at-10.09.17-PM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"661\" height=\"568\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The \u201c<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"http:\/\/www.legis.ga.gov\/legislation\/en-US\/Display\/20192020\/HB\/915\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer\">Georgia Anti-Sanctuary Act<\/a>\u201d is being co-sponsored by\u00a0GOP Reps. Steve Tarvin, Scot Turner, Ken Pullin, Kevin Cook, Michael Caldwell, and Sheri Gilligan. They are backed up by additional sponsors, including\u00a0Marc Morris, Mitchell Scoggins, Mathew Gambill, Steven Sainz, Emory Dunahoo, Joseph Gullett, Jeff Jones, David Clark, Rick Williams, and Danny Mathis, said D.A. King, a pro-American immigration-reform activist in the state, and the founder of the <a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thedustininmansociety.org\/blog\/2019\/12\/10\/criminal-aliens-in-georgia-ice-detainers-active-offenders-as-of-november-2019-from-the-georgia-dept-of-corrections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer\">Dustin Inman Society<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Their HB 915 bill\u00a0would require the state to support federal immigration enforcement efforts and prevent any local obstruction. A statement at <a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/insideradvantage.com\/2020\/02\/17\/anti-sanctuary-immigration-legislation-introduced-in-the-state-house\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer\">InsiderAdvantage.com<\/a> from Singleton said:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"\">\n<div class=\"\">\n<div id=\"article\" class=\"system exported\">\n<div class=\"page\">\n<p class=\"\">State entities and agencies would be required to comply with federal immigration detainers and would be prohibited from withholding information or records from federal immigration enforcement efforts regarding an immigrant\u2019s status. Additionally, the bill would encourage a seamless transfer process regarding illegal aliens who are held in a state\u2019s correctional facility to be transferred into federal custody. Under this bill, it would also be illegal for state or local law enforcement officers who have custody of an illegal to deny or knowingly fail to comply with an alien\u2019s detainer\u2019s requests.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">My bill is carefully modeled from the 2017 Texas SB-4 and 2019 Florida SB-168 bills.
