Photo: MyAJC.com<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>AJC leaves off compelling facts in weeper on the end of TPS for El Salvador<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Senior Managing Editor, Bert Roughton, calls it \u201cnewspapering\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The AJC gave us another grab-the-tissue story on President Trump\u2019s recent announcement of the end of TPS for citizens of El Salvador the other day.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cJos\u00e9 Ferm\u00e1n sat in the Atlanta offices of the El Salvadoran consulate, overwhelmed with a sense of pressure, sadness and fear. All playing out on his tear-stained face.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That Ernie Suggs weeper again failed to match <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/joekovacjr\/status\/313502136854007808\">the AJC slogan of \u201cCredible. Compelling. Complete.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Because it wasn\u2019t complete. The acronym TPS stands for \u201cTemporary Protective Status.\u201d The editors apparently didn\u2019t think the headline over the yarn about a Salvadoran who has been in the United States since 2009 and who had obtained TPS status after the 2001 earthquake in his homeland should give away too much. They titled it \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.myajc.com\/news\/helped-the-country-says-salvadoran-losing-protective-status\/fKA2QJk79ubHreBXN4m7ZM\/\">We\u2019ve helped the country, says Salvadoran of losing protective status.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Note they left off the \u201ctemporary\u201d part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uscis.gov\/humanitarian\/temporary-protected-status\">TPS<\/a>. Too much information can ruin a perfectly good \u2018Agenda R Us\u2019 piece.<\/p>\n<p>TPS was granted to Salvadorans &#8211; here legally or not &#8211; because it was deemed too dangerous to return there after the afore mentioned earthquake. The AJC editors forgot to tell readers that many if not most of the Salvadorans here when the earthquake hit there were illegal aliens.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s let the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/01\/08\/us\/salvadorans-tps-end.html\">New York Times<\/a> (!) explain part of that fact in their own report:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cSalvadorans were by far the largest group of foreigners benefiting from temporary protected status, which shielded them from deportation if they had arrived in the United States illegally.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The victim of borders and TPS termination, Jos\u00e9 Ferm\u00e1n, featured in the AJC story has apparently been here since 2009. Suggs didn\u2019t delve into his immigration status before TPS.
