John Litland letter to the editor in the Marietta Daily Journal: NO! to the DREAM Act amnesty!

Don’t pass DREAM Act amnesty bill

The Marietta Daily Journal

October 07, 2010

DEAR EDITOR:

Maria Acevedo’s recent Marietta Daily Journal letter to the editor in support of the DREAM Act amnesty for illegal aliens, in response to D.A. King’s column to the contrary, is notable for at least one thing: a shortage of facts. She is trying hard to convince us that this amnesty applies to “students” and that anyone who does not support it is somehow mean-spirited and divisive.

I went back and re-read King’s recent column, in which he tells us that the DREAM Act amnesty provides legalization and a path to citizenship to any illegal up to age 35, that the applicants are not required to provide proof of their victimized claim and that once amnestied, they can then sponsor their parents for citizenship. The same parents who brought them here illegally. How handy. This DREAM Act is mostly about amnesty for adults.

Acevado also forgot to mention that it would result in massive fraud, as did the “one time” amnesty of 1986. Or that once an alien files an amnesty application, they cannot be removed from the United States for any reason until the application is fully processed and a final decision on amnesty has been made. Or that all amnesty candidates go to the front of the line, bypassing millions of people around the world who have applied to come to the United States the legal way.

Unlike Mr. King, Acevado overlooked writing that there are no numerical limits to the amnesty and there’s no end date for the application process. And that the DREAM Act amnesty would punish legal immigrant students who would be shut out of limited classroom seats for what their parents did not do – ignore our laws and steal American jobs. Oops.

Acevado didn’t say that the Dems will likely try to pass the DREAM Act amnesty after the election in a lame-duck session to increase their voting rolls for future elections.

Like D.A. King and most Americans, I say “NO!” to the DREAM Act amnesty!
