Georgia’s Sixth District election: American workers and immigration enforcement not a priority

Victory Girls blog

Candidates have apparent similar positions: It doesn’t look good for immigration enforcement in Georgia’s special election

Unsurprisingly, national attention being given the tight special election here in Georgia’s Sixth Congressional District to replace Dr. Tom Price has so far overlooked the immigration issue.

Some insight on Republican candidate Karen Handel now may save some surprised disappointment from immigration skeptics when the June 20 runoff is over. While it is mostly ignored by the GOP faithful in Georgia – where we host more illegal aliens than Arizona – Republican candidate Karen Handel’s position is much closer to Paul Ryan than to Steve King.

Shorter: So far, she’s a squish.

Handel’s opponent, Democrat Jon Ossoff, working on a campaign budget surpassing $8 million and counting, has predictably, but quietly, taken the standard pro-amnesty position one would expect. “The only real solution is comprehensive immigration reform that secures our borders and provides a path to legal status for non-felons who are here without proper legal documentation,” Ossoff told the audience at a pre-primary candidate forum covered by the liberal Atlanta Journal Constitution newspaper.

At the same event, former Secretary of State Handel offered a similar and decidedly ambiguous statement on legalization that echoes the “yes, immigration and victims of borders are a problem, but we’ll talk about it later…” response so familiar to those tuned in to the Republican House establishment. “These immigrants have come to our country and blatantly disregarded our laws,” she said. “We cannot, we should not reward that. No amnesty. No ability to vote. Get those borders secure and then deal with that situation. I’m not prepared to talk about hypothetical.”

The “path to legal status” from Ossoff and Handel’s “no ability to vote” is notable in that it sounds like both may be getting some experienced guidance from the “it’s not amnesty if they don’t immediately become Democrat voters” incremental-path-to-citizenship faction of the Gang of Eight crowd. It is easy to imagine the marches protesting “second class citizenship!” and “no taxation without representation!” that would quickly follow passage of a non-citizenship amnesty.

On the “issues” page of her campaign website, Handel has a paragraph on immigration that omits any mention of E-Verify but supports the promised Trump border wall and improving the “reliability of temporary visas.” But it seems that she is on the side of the Chamber of Commerce regarding the beleaguered American workers. She is actually campaigning on creating “a viable guest worker program” and assures us she believes “we should be welcoming of those who wish to migrate to our great country.” Handel doesn’t say how many wishful migrants we should welcome – maybe all of them? BTW: “The current immigration system is broken.” Sound familiar?

Recently endorsed by the Georgia and U.S. Chambers of Commerce, Handel, former CEO of metro-Atlanta’s North Fulton Chamber of Commerce, has a much more detailed section on her website when it comes to “Jobs and the Economy.” There is no mention of E-Verify there either, but we do get this: “I believe that the only way we can grow our economy at a more robust pace is through lower taxes and fewer regulations.”

Along with Georgia’s corporate-funded anti-enforcement GALEO and the ACLU, the Georgia Chamber actively opposed 2011 state level E-Verify legislation. The U.S. Chamber joined La Raza, the SPLC, and a host of open borders, identity politics groups in unsuccessfully challenging Arizona’s 2007 immigration crackdown in the Supreme Court.

Handel, who has raised more than a million dollars since the April 18 non-partisan primary, declined to respond to the NumbersUSA candidate survey on immigration and mailed out an issues survey of her own asking 6th district voters what the issues were – without any mention of immigration.

We have actually heard GOP voters express the hope that if she is successful in replacing now HHS Secretary Tom Price and the Republicans keep the now purple 6th District, Handel will move to the right and adopt a more pro-American worker and beneficial immigration policy position after she is sworn in.

Maybe President Trump asked her about that while he was here in Atlanta for a Handel fundraiser Friday.

Inman’s only child killed by illegal alien – ‘compassionate’ left mocks assistance effort

Billy and Kathy Inman of Woodstock, Georgia were invited guests at the official launch of the Trump administration’s Victims of Immigration Crime Engagement Office (VOICE) in Washington DC on Wednesday, April 26, 2017.

Mr. and Mrs. Inman are the parents of Dustin Inman, a forever-sixteen American who was killed by an illegal alien in a fully preventable traffic crash on Father’s Day weekend, 2000. The illegal alien who took Dustin’s life and put Kathy in a wheelchair for the rest of hers escaped police custody soon after the crash and has never been re-captured.

Established in 2005, the Georgia-based Dustin Inman Society was named in memory of the Inman youth at his parent’s request.

Fulfilling a campaign pledge, President Trump ordered ICE to create the VOICE office in response to the Executive Order entitled ‘Enhancing Public Safety in the Interior of the United States’, which directed DHS to create an office to support victims of crimes committed by criminal aliens.

“All crime is terrible, but these victims are unique—and too often ignored,” said Secretary Kelly. “They are casualties of crimes that should never have taken place—because the people who victimized them often times should not have been in the country in the first place.”

According to the ICE press release, key objectives of the VOICE office are:

* Use a victim-centered approach to acknowledge and support victims and their families.

* Promote awareness of available services to crime victims.

* Build collaborative partnerships with community stakeholders assisting victims.

Billy Inman has not only struggled with the loss of his son and to care for his wife since the senseless crash but also has staged a dedicated and determined, non-stop, seventeen-year campaign to locate Dustin’s killer. Last year, the U.S. Department of Justice sent Mr. Inman a letter explaining that the fugitive who was in the U.S. illegally, Gonzalez Gonzalo Harrell, has been officially confirmed to be residing in Mexico but will not be returned to the U.S. for justice.

In his remarks (video 21:30) at the VOICE office opening, Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly noted the Inman family and the misery they have endured because multiple administrations have refused to enforce American immigration laws.

ICE has established a toll-free hotline staffed with operators who will triage calls to ensure victims receive the support they need. The number is 1-855-48-VOICE or 1-855-488-6423. Asked about his visit to two-day Washington and the VOICE opening, Billy Inman said “I appreciated all of ‘em. I hope this will help and hold some accountable.”

Tolerant ‘Progressives’ mock families like the Inmans’

Immediately after going active, the official ICE support phone line intended to help families of victims of crime by illegals was inundated with prank calls from the anti-enforcement left that so often talks of “compassion.” The intent was to disrupt what is depicted as an “anti-immigrant” campaign by ICE. The anti-borders crowd gleefully boasts of their contempt for immigration laws and for the fellow Americans who suffer with the loss of family members at the hands of victims of borders.

A legal director with an open borders organization called the new Department of Homeland Security (DHS) office which will aid the American victims of illegal immigrant crimes “despicable.

Billy Inman works part time as a driver on route delivery and is in need of financial assistance to cover endless medical bills and to provide professional home care for his wife. A GoFundMe account has been set up for that purpose.

The Dustin Inman Society picks Bob Gray in the Georgia Sixth District special election – April 18

Posted by D.A. King at 6:18 am - Email the author   Print This Post Print This Post

To all DIS supporters who vote in Georgia’s Sixth District:

The Dustin Inman Society’s favorite candidate for the special election to replace Dr. Tom Price in congress – Georgia’s 6th District – is Mr. Bob Gray.

At his invitation, I have spent several hours talking to Bob about both legal and illegal immigration and I am confident that he is a man of his word and has a genuine interest in American workers and wages and preserving our rule of law.

Mr. Gray understands that immigration is not a separate issue from most other topics and that not only must we secure our borders, but that we must also enforce the laws in place on ensuring that temporary visa holders actually leave the U.S. when they are supposed to. About half the illegal aliens here now did not come illegally.

Bob agrees with me – and most Americans – that English should be the official language of the United States.

I trust that Bob will not participate in a repeat of the 1986 legalization of illegal aliens and that he understands that ending the current reward system of jobs, benefits and services for illegal aliens is the reasonable solution to illegal immigration. Bob has made it clear that he supports national E-Verify and employer accountability.

Bob has also told me that he supports expanding the 287 g tool so that more local law enforcement agencies can help ICE locate and report illegal aliens in our communities.

I urge you to take a look at the candidate survey offered by our friends at NumbersUSA asking key questions on immigration positions of contenders for the 6th District seat, HERE. The survey was sent to all candidates.

Bob Gray answered the questions exactly as I would have myself.

I also urge you to note which candidates did not respond – and have thereby not detailed their immigration related promises in writing.

Georgia has more illegal aliens than Arizona. English is an optional language.

The Dustin Inman Society picks Bob Gray and I am voting for Bob Gray.

Enforcement works: Immigration arrests at Mexican border continue to plummet

Posted by D.A. King at 4:15 am - Email the author   Print This Post Print This Post

“Though the Trump administration has not yet changed how the border is patrolled, the president’s tough talk on immigration — including plans to build a border wall — and his stepped-up arrests of immigrants living in the country illegally have likely acted as deterrents.”

Immigration arrests at Mexican border continue to plummet

Associated Press
Tuesday, April 4,

WASHINGTON
Arrests of people caught trying to sneak into the United States across the Mexican border plummeted in March to the lowest monthly figure in more than 17 years, the head of the Department of Homeland Security reported.

That’s a likely sign that fewer immigrants are trying to make the trek into the United States.

Secretary John Kelly said the steep decline in arrests is “no accident” and credited President Donald Trump’s approach to illegal immigration.

Kelly reported the figures in written testimony submitted to a Senate committee ahead of an appearance Wednesday. The Associated Press obtained a copy of his testimony.

Though the Trump administration has not yet changed how the border is patrolled, the president’s tough talk on immigration — including plans to build a border wall — and his stepped-up arrests of immigrants living in the country illegally have likely acted as deterrents.

It’s unclear if the declines will continue. The number of people caught trying to enter the United States typically increases as the weather warms. Arrests during the normally slower winter months were higher than in past years. It is possible that some migrants rushed to the border after the election and before Trump took office.

It’s also unclear if migrants are waiting south of the border to see how Trump’s border security efforts and plans for a wall develop.

In his testimony for the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, Kelly said fewer than 12,500 people were caught crossing the border illegally last month. That compares with more than 43,000 in December.

Kelly told lawmakers that the number of families and children traveling alone — groups that accounted for hundreds of thousands of illegal border crossers in recent years — also declined steeply. Last month fewer than 1,000 children were caught at the border and fewer than 1,100 people traveling as families were found. In recent years most of the families and children traveling alone have been from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala.

Kelly has said his agency is considering separating parents and children as a way to dissuade parents from making the trek from Central America…Read the rest here from the AJC.
