Palin on immigration and border security – it’s a mystery

Mark Krikorian — Washington Times

Where does she stand?

Gov. Sarah Palin wowed Republicans with her convention speech. In addition to her life story, she expressed strong conservative views on lower taxes, national defense, and energy independence. — But what does she think about immigration? She said nothing about it, no doubt at the behest of the McCain campaign…

Crackdown on illegals increases holiday job prospects for seniors and teens

Huntington Beach, Calif. — The government crackdown on illegal immigration has created more job opportunities this holiday season for senior and teen U.S. citizens, says Renee Ward, founder of career sites http://www.Seniors4Hire.org and http://www.Teens4Hire.org.

Laws that allow high profile raids, deportation and punish employers of illegal immigrants and a recent program that lets employers check if a person can work legally in the U.S., have brought seniors and teens back in favor with many employers that need to hire seasonal, temporary, and or part time workers, Ward says.

“U.S. born seniors and teens are perfect candidates for holiday jobs that need to be filled. Many seniors are just looking for something to do and teens need experience and a little extra money for their necessities,” says Ward.
The retail industry adds thousands of seasonal jobs between now and the end of the year. This includes mall stores, grocery stores, fast food and casual dining restaurants, photo studios, and specialty stores like pumpkin and tree lots. Stores need more people to stock and sell their products.

Other places to consider include packing and shipping companies, event planners, caterers, flower shops, cleaning services, amusement/theme parks, and charitable organizations like the Salvation Army.

“Businesses of this nature can find a wealth of eager talent on our sites to fill their needs. We have over 2 million registered members looking for work,” says Ward. HERE

Congressman Tom Tancredo: NO BAILOUT FOR LOANS TO ILLEGAL ALIENS – Thank you Tom!

Press Release from Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo
September 24, 2008

Tancredo Demands ‘Bailout’ Provisions that Bar Handouts to Illegal Aliens
Asks leadership to prevent illegal aliens from obtaining federally backed loans

( WASHINGTON, DC ) – U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Littleton) asked Congressional leadership to include safeguards in the bailout plan to verify the legal residency and identity of potential homebuyers to ensure that illegal aliens are not obtaining federally backed home loans – and that taxpayers are not absorbing the debts of illegal aliens, or bad loans made by banks to illegal aliens.

In a letter today, Tancredo asked his Congressional colleagues to oppose any package that lacks such safeguards.

A copy of the letter is below:

Dear Colleague,

In the midst of the turmoil in our financial markets, we should take pause to reflect on the lessons we have learned in the past few years. With the benefits of that wisdom, we can include the prudent provisions that will close loopholes in any potential “bailout” legislation. One such suggestion is to incorporate safeguards to verify the legal residency and identity of potential homebuyers to ensure that illegal aliens are not obtaining federally backed home loans.

I sent a letter to the Secretary of HUD a year ago about this very concern. I also pressed the agency to disclose the extent to which this type of fraud is contributing to volatility in the mortgage markets. I believe this kind of fraud has contributed to the tumult we are seeing in the headlines daily.

I have seen this ugly issue up close, as a Colorado-based mortgage fraud ring in which realtors, loan officers, and sales agents were indicted and arrested for obtaining federally-backed loans for some 250 unqualified buyers by manufacturing false financial information, fraudulent identities, and bogus citizenship documentation. All of the 191 houses involved were purchased with HUD-guaranteed loans. According to one expert, banks in Colorado alone lose upwards of $75 million per year to fraud – so I can only imagine what the numbers are like nationally.

I recognize that any infusion of foreign investment – especially now – is a welcome addition to our capital-starved market. But there is a difference between the wealthy foreign real estate investor or financier of a vacation home, and the inherently unreliable illegal aliens who are prone to fraud and may be forced by circumstances to return to their home nation at any point. Certainly, we should seek to differentiate between these two categories of buyer.

Including a mechanism to make sure that taxpayers are not providing any assistance to illegal aliens, or absorbing any bad debts owed to financial institutions (such as mortgages) by illegal aliens is a “must” for any “bailout” legislation. If such protections are not included in the package, I hope you will join me in opposing its passage.

We need to ensure that the ‘American Dream’ remains within reach of American families – and that means enacting some long overdue safeguards that prevent illegal aliens and their unscrupulous allies in the financial industry from undermining its integrity.

But we are giving them money for border security and anti-smuggling efforts? Mexico quietly helps emigrants to US learn Spanish

Mexico quietly helps emigrants to US learn Spanish
By LAURA WIDES-MUNOZ – 3 hours ago

MIAMI (AP) — For more than a decade, as the immigration debate has swelled on both sides of the border, the Mexican government has been quietly providing money, materials and even teachers to American schools, colleges and nonprofit organizations.

The programs aren’t substitutes for U.S. curricula, but educators familiar with them say they provide a lifeline for adult students with little formal education by helping them become literate in Spanish — and by extension, English.

Yet many educators are wary of even talking about the programs, fearing they might stoke an anti-immigrant backlash.

The Mexican government, which spends more than $1 million annually on the programs, has many reasons to provide the aid to the immigrants and their children. The programs allow it to give back to the growing number of Mexicans living legally and illegally in the U.S. Behind oil, remittances from these individuals are the second-largest source of foreign income for the Mexican economy — almost $24 billion last year.

“We don’t want the Mexicans in the exterior to feel like milk cows being expressed for the resources they were sending back,” said Carlos Gonzalez Gutierrez, head of the Mexican government’s Institute for Mexicans Abroad, which oversees most of the programs.

Mexicans abroad need an education to represent the country well, he said.

“The image and prestige of Mexico is inextricably linked to the image and prestige of these communities in the U.S.,” Gonzalez said.

He also acknowledged that many of the adult participants are likely illegal immigrants, a group the U.S. government doesn’t want to allow to stay, let alone have to support… HERE

CALLS NEEDED! Georgia Senators silent on E-Verify renewal?

Posted by D.A. King at 1:31 pm - Email the author   Print This Post Print This Post

WHERE ARE OUR GEORGIA SENATORS ON THE FACT THAT FEDERAL FUNDING FOR E-VERIFY IS DUE TO EXPIRE IN NOVEMBER?

I don’t know either, and the silence is deafening.

Let’s find out. Today.
(Info for DIS supporters outside of Georgia at the bottom of this alert)

As I hope everyone understands, the NO COST federal E-Verify system is a Web based data base that all employers in the United States can use to verify employment eligibility of newly hired employees. The system, authorized in 1996 is voluntary and has been constantly improved over the years and is deemed to be 99.5% effective in verifying employment eligibility. ( DO NOT CONFUSE E-VERIFY WITH THE ELIGIBILITY OF APPLICANTS FOR PUBLIC BENEFITS VERIFICATION IN THE SAVE PROGRAM – E-VERIFY IS FOR EMPLOYMENT VERIFICATION ONLY).

From DHS:

“Currently, 99.5 percent of all work-authorized employees queried through E-Verify were verified without receiving a Tentative Non-confirmation (TNC) or having to take any type of corrective action. Those employees whose work authorization cannot be instantly verified are given the opportunity to work with SSA or USCIS, as appropriate, to confirm their work authorization. USCIS estimates one percent of all queried employees choose to contest an initial, tentative result from E-Verify showing that their work authorization could not be verified, and only half of those who contest that result are ultimately found to be authorized. The most recent statistics appear to show that the share of legal workers who are not instantly confirmed by E-Verify as work authorized is decreasing further, but those numbers need more study. Furthermore, on May 5, 2008, E-Verify implemented a series of important enhancements which will continue to improve the accuracy of the system’s automatic confirmation processes.”

The U.S. House has passed a bill that would reauthorize and fund E-Verify for 5 years. Working for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce interests of even more “cheap” labor, Senator Menendez is holding the Senate’s vote on E-Verify hostage with his demand that we allow 550,000 more workers into the U.S. if we want to see the employment verification system renewed. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is very powerful in Washington and is firmly against the entire concept of E-Verify.

FOLLOW THE MONEY EVERY TIME.

There are a variety of reasons that we are hearing nothing from our Senators on this I guess.

Maybe they are unaware of the fact that the Senate is adjourning this week and the vote on E-Verify funding must be made before they leave Washington?

Maybe they don’t know that we know and are watching them closely?

Maybe the lack of any recent press releases on their Websites or comments in public supporting the continuation of E-Verify is because the dog ate their homework?

Maybe with un employment skyrocketing we need to stop use of E-Verify so that illegal aliens can steal even more American jobs and lower the wages of American workers?

Maybe the Chamber of Commerce has more effect on their actions on this than we do?

WHATEVER THE REASON FOR THE DEAFENING SILENCE, WE NEED TO MAKE IT CLEAR THAT JUST BECAUSE THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES REFUSE TO TALK ABOUT ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION AND EMPLOYMENT, WE HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN!

I AM ASKING THAT EVERYONE HERE MAKES TWO CALLS TODAY & TOMORROW TO EACH GEORGIA SENATOR AND RESPECTFULLY BUT FIRMLY REMIND THEM THAT WE WANT TO HEAR THEM SPEAK OUT ON REAUTHORIZING AND FUNDING E-VERIFY BEFORE THE SENATE ADJOURNS. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT AND IS VERY TIME SENSITIVE. PLEASE CALL AS SOON AS YOU CAN.

I understand that Senator Saxby Chambliss is running for re-election this year – and that Senator Isakson will run again in two years.

Please call! CONTACT INFO HERE ( Chambliss) AND HERE ( Isakson) – USE YOUR CELL PHONE FOR FREE CALL.

DON’T LET THE OPEN BORDERS COALITION OF BUSINESS AND THE EXTREME LEFT WIN!!!

Federation for American Immigration Reform
Less than a week to save E-Verify
Last week Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL) attempted to bring E-Verify to the Senate floor for a vote, but, once again, Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) has blocked E-Verify and won’t let it pass unless he is allowed to add hundreds of thousands of foreign workers to our struggling economy…
