Call it the “road to Georgiafornia.” Republican-controlled Georgia is issuing driver’s licenses to illegal aliens -- with testing in 11 foreign languages.Si, despite the will of the GOP voting base, the Department of Driver’s Services has been issuing driver’s licenses to some illegal aliens since the summer of 2012.As a reluctant but longtime denizen of the Gold Dome, this humble writer can well remember the hard-won Republican-led battles of the last decade against encouraging and rewarding illegals with a license to drive. Which makes the current official silence on this dangerous policy more than a little alarming. This slippery slope process can and should be stopped by the Republican-controlled General Assembly in the current session. How did it happen? Look to President Barack Obama. After Congress refused to pass the scam laden DREAM Act multiple times over the course of a decade, desperate re-election candidate Obama bypassed Congress in 2012 and unilaterally instituted his own de facto amnesty for illegal aliens who can claim to have been brought here illegally as children.Make no mistake, this illegal enforcement dodge was done to curry favor with the open borders, identity politics mob, that endlessly insist that we stop all deportations. It was done for Democratic votes.Dear Leader declared an illegal renewable two-year delay in deportation proceedings for illegals that he and the liberal media call “Dreamers.” He calls his administrative amnesty “Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.” Deferred action on deportation was never meant to be illegally applied to an entire group of illegal aliens as a political maneuver to harvest votes. It is important that all concerned realize that this brazen Obama instant amnesty does not change the fact that the illegal aliens who are affected are still illegal aliens. Both the official United States Citizenship and Immigration Services website and the White House blog page make it clear: “Deferred action does not provide an individual with lawful status.”Inserted before anyone could imagine presidential administrative amnesty, Georgia law that regulates the state’s DDS office on driver’s license eligibility includes language regarding deferred deportation status. That language should be removed from state law in the legislature that is controlled by a super-majority of Republicans. If readers are not hearing from their Republican elected officials and candidates on this little gem, they have a serious problem. Why? Assuming the Republican-controlled House of Representatives in Washington stands firm and doesn’t repeat the 1986 comprehensive amnesty for illegals in 2014, Obama could very well simply bow to the screaming demands of the same illegal alien lobby that extracted the DACA amnesty and extend “prosecutorial discretion” and deferred action on all deportations to all illegal aliens. This would result in Georgia becoming even more attractive to millions of currently “undocumented workers.” Because they could all get a Georgia driver’s license and simply blend into American life as if they had obeyed our immigration laws. Like real immigrants.Do we have a shortage of workers? Really? Why aren’t wages going up? They wouldn’t be heading to Arizona. The governor there has refused to allow DACA amnestied illegals to obtain a drivers license and many other public benefits.Ask yourself why Georgia Republicans are silent on rewarding illegal immigration and Georgia’s de facto state level amnesty in an election year?Nobody can shift the blame to President Obama if this outrage is allowed to be ignored.D.A.
